The Innovation
Much of the hydrogen debate focuses on how to produce cleaner fuel. Far less attention is paid to what happens after that fuel is produced: how effectively it can be turned into useful heat and power. That distinction matters as hydrogen demand grows. Global demand reached almost 100 million tons in 2024, yet low-emissions hydrogen still accounted for less than 1% of production, according to the International Energy Agency's Global Hydrogen Review 2025.
That is the problem inventor Bob King, founder of VaporNRG, has set out to tackle. His hydrogen-oxygen bubble steam boiler received U.S. Patent No. 12,516,807 — rather than simply refining the conventional heat transfer process, King's design places the heat-producing reaction within the fluid itself.
Commercial Opportunity
King's commercial objective is to offer the technology through a purchase or licensing arrangement so another organization can develop the equipment. A finished boiler is not currently being offered for installation. His focus remains on moving the design toward the engineering and testing needed to assess its proposed uses. Comparative measurements could help establish where generating heat directly within water may prove useful and what further development would be required.
